1. I am grateful for your confirmation of your acceptance as a charge on Hong Kong funds er all

Hong Kong funds o of your expenses in corection with the first batch of 5 scholarships under the above sabene.

2. As regards the second batch of five acholarships, I confirm that, in addition to the interim free grant of £1,000 which has already been made, as a enarge to Hong Kong's allocation from C.D. & W. funds, application will be made for a further free grant, also chargeable to Hong Kong'o 0.D. & W. allocation, to cover the balance of expenditure in eqanestiền with these scholarships. This application will be made as soon as it is possible to arrive at a firm catimmte of the additional financial provision that will be required.

3. with regard to the actual awards of the second batch of scholarships, ühẹ F. .I. have studied the recommendations contained in Sir Ralph Stevenson's despatch to the Foreign Office No.1025 of the 27th August 1946 (a copy of this despaten formed the 8th enclosure to my despatch No.267 of the 23rd December 1946, but a further copy is enclosed with this saringram for ease of reference), and have recommended that the Tind selection should be made
